Sabrina Carpenter follows up her breakout 2022 record Short N' Sweet with Man's Best Friend, a new full-length steeped in irony, confidence, and high-gloss, get-the-look hooks. It arrives in the wake of her Grammy win and a run of chart-gobbling singles, with lead track 'Manchild' already out in the wild as the country-influenced pop song taking aim at immature men. Part soured by controversy over its cover - her forebear Carly Simon was unimpressed, saying "there have been far flashier covers than hers... I don't know why she's getting so much flak" - Carpenter has emerged sanguine despite it, the album playing back bossily and brashly to boot.
